Beginning October 2, 2016, the SLO Library as we currently know it will be closed for renovation. During the renovation, library materials can reserved and be picked up in the conference room at the west end of the hall way that links the west entrance and the main entrance. We anticipate that the conference room will be staffed during normal library hours.
The remodel will 1) relocate the Childrens’ area to the second floor, 2) relocate the Reference area to the third floor which is currently used for library material processing and 3) will open up the first floor as a more open and flowing area. The library material checkout and return system will be updated providing easier and more secure checkout.
According to Chris Barnickel, Director of Libraries, this remodel was initiated by the need to replace the existing elevator. He explained that once a major remodel for the elevator replacement was required, it made sense to use that time to enhance the useability of the Library. The remodel will almost double the space available for the Childrens’ area.
As of now we do not know what impact this will have upon our Friends Corner, Friends Tuesday mini book sales and other Friends of the Library activities other than they will not be available during the renovation. We will provide more details on our activities as we learn more.
