Aligned with National Friends of the Library week, October 20 – 26, October is the SLO Friends of the Library Volunteer Month. During the month the Friends will be sponsoring various activities to recruit additional volunteers to help with Friends events, programs, projects and activities. The culmination of these Volunteer recruiting activities will be a Volunteer Faire to be held in the San Luis Obispo County Library (our SLO Library on Palm and Osos) on Thursday, October 24th at 5:30 PM.
The Volunteer Faire will provide an opportunity for prospective volunteers to meet with SLO Friends of the Library board members and members of SLO Library Staff . In addition, Interim Director, Chris Barnickel, will be in attendance.
Attendees will be able to meet with the various Friends board members to discuss the specific needs for volunteers and to gain an understanding of the upcoming activities of the SLO Friends of the Library.
According to Lanny Hernandez, the head of the Volunteer Campaign, “this will be a unique opportunity to chat one-to-one with the people who most work to provide additional funding and services for the Library. In addition, we will have a short presentation discussing the achievements, goals and agenda for 2013-14.”
The Volunteer Faire will start at 5:30 on the second floor of the SLO Library and continue for two hours. So, on your way to the Farmers Market, stop by the Volunteer Faire, or before you leave the Farmers Market, come join us at the Volunteer Faire. Of course, make sure you check out the new Atrium Mural as you enter the Library.
During SLO Friends of the Library Volunteer Month, the Friends will be speaking at various venues in town discussing the activities of the Friends and the volunteer needs.
