Jeff Wheelwright graduated from Yale College in 1969, with Honors in English, and from the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism in 1971. The first half of his career was spent in New York City, where he worked as a public television producer (1971-75); as a freelance television writer (1975-78); and as the science and medicine editor for the monthly Life magazine (1978-89).

Since 1989 Wheelwright has been a freelance writer and author. His articles have appeared in Smithsonian, Discover, and The Atlantic and other print and online magazines. He has produced three well-received books.

His most recent book, The Wandering Gene and the Indian Princess, which was supported by the award of a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2009, is about a Jewish breast-cancer mutation affecting people of Spanish Catholic ancestry in New Mexico and Colorado.

Jeff’s book, The Wandering Gene and the Indian Princess, will be available for purchase at the luncheon and the author will be available for book signing.

Anual Meeting & Luncheon

Where: Madonna Inn, Main Ballroom, SLO.
When: 11:00 am – Meet and Greet
11:30 am –  Meeting followed by Lunch service and performance by the Guest Music Group
12:30 pm –  Guest Speaker
Cost: $25.00 per member or guest meal
Menu: Choice of Chicken, Beef or Vegetarian Entree
  Beef: Tender slices of Roast Sirloin of Beef with a touch of au jus.
Chicken: Chicken Florentine breast stuffed with spinach mushroom dressing topped with a Chardonnay sauce.
Vegetarian: Portabella Mushroom: layered with heirloom tomatoes, goat cheese, seasonal vegetables and a balsamic reduction drizzle.
  Each entree served with Green Salad, Chef’s vegetables and baby red potatoes, homemade dinner rolls, Black Forest cake, coffee and tea
Reservations: Attendees must pre-register by April 20, 2017.  To make your reservation, click on either the Pay by Check or Pay On-line tab above.
